Hemophilia

What is Hemophilia?

Hemophilia is a rare, inherited bleeding disorder in which your blood doesn't clot normally. If you have hemophilia, you may bleed for a longer time than others after an injury. You also may bleed internally, especially in your knees, ankles, and elbows. This bleeding can damage your organs or tissues and, sometimes, be fatal. More information can be obtained directly from the Hemophilia Foundation of Illinois.

Who will come see me?

Highly trained RNs with backgrounds that include emergency medicine, critical care, pediatric, and pediatric intensive care. Furthermore our RNs are specialized in IV therapy and we pride ourselves with our continual one-on-one nurse to patient care.

How long will each infusion visit last?

The first visit includes the all start of care information (medical history, patient assessment, patient and family education, reconstitution of medication, and infusion of medication). Subsequent visits usually take approximately 30-40 minutes which will include a short patient assessment and medication administration. Our nurses will contact the family the night before each visit to schedule and confirm a time most convenient for the family.

Will my health insurance cover the services that PICC provides?

Yes, in virtually all cases insurance will cover home infusion services. We have developed a strong working relationship with most of the leading pharmacies throughout Chicago and surrounding counties.

What regulatory agencies guide your services?

We strictly adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as well as the policies and procedures set forth by the Infusion Nurses Society (INS)information we need to get the process started.
